There are many reasons to join the Chamber. Among the best are: Put your stamp on your town — The Chamber is active in trying to promote the city to new residents, and businesses seeking new locations, as well as sparking new events that will draw people to visit the community. Your ideas and suggestions can help set the direction for this exciting young city.
Tell your neighbors about yourself — The Chamber creates many ways for Chamber members to get the news out about their businesses. The Edge, a monthly newspaper focusing on the community, features two pages of Chamber news, including information on new businesses in town. The Pleasant Hill Living Magazine, a monthly publication distributed to all residents and businesses in and around the Pleasant Hill area. The Chamber buyer’s guide is published on a yearly basis, giving residents easy access to phone numbers and information about local businesses.
Get to know each other — Business after five events, Chamber lunch clubs held the second and fourth and get togethers give Chamber members the chance to get to share information and ideas about business. These are great chances to get to know your neighbors, and to help them to get to know you.
Benefits of Membership
The Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce works in cooperation with the City of Pleasant Hill, the Pleasant Hill Development Corporation, the Eastern Polk Regional Development Corporation and the Greater Des Moines Partnership to promote growth in our business community, help new businesses become established and enhance the quality of life for its residents.
Being an affiliate of the Greater Des Moines Partnership provides us with access to plans for present and future transportation requirements and industrial and economic development throughout the metro area, demographics, statistical information, etc.
Ribbon Cuttings/Open Houses
We have ribbon cutting ceremonies for new businesses and ribbon cuttings/open houses for existing businesses that have merged, remodeled or have expanded their business.
Chamber Lunch Club
We have a member luncheon the second and fourth Thursday of each month with a featured business making a business presentation. Each of the member attendees gets to introduce himself/herself and say what business they represent and give an overview of the type of business. This is an excellent way for one to network his/her business with other chamber members and visitors.
Business After Hours
We have a Business After Hours get together where the members can have refreshments and fellowship in a relaxed atmosphere.
Small Business Tune Up
We offer free educational seminars “Small Business Tune Up” with topics that will be beneficial to our business community.
We have our annual dinner/meeting in January to present Pleasant Hill’s Citizen of the Year award as well as other awards. We also review the Chamber’s accomplishments from the previous year and install our Board of Directors for the new year.
The Chamber sponsors an annual golf outing as one of our fund raisers for the year. Chill on the Hill. Friday Night over 21 event where residents and businesses from Pleasant Hill and all surrounding communities can gather to network, enjoy live entertainment, beverages and snacks.
We sponsor this event as a means of showcasing our community. This event includes a parade, pet show, car show, talent show, dance school dancers, inflatable rides, food vendors, bands, community showcase display, and fireworks.
We send a weekly news and upcoming events correspondence (via email) to our Chamber members, city staff, city council and others.
We have a full page in the Pleasant Hill Edge and Pleasant Hill Living Magazine each month that highlights a business, and provides events/activities or other news items for the month.
We will do an annual business directory. It provides a listing of businesses and other related information about Pleasant Hill for new residents and new businesses coming to this area.
We have a Chamber website, www.pleasanthillchamber.org, with our Chamber members’ information listed (business name and type of business, contact name, address, telephone number and other information as provided to us).
An additional benefit for our Chamber members is a limited use of our board room for meetings. The conference table seats twelve. Scheduling is to be handled by the Chamber’s Executive Director. Check with the Executive Director for room usage agreement.
